"Sinfo in Motion" joins chamber string orchestra - Sinfonietta Cracovia, and accordion ensamble - Motion Trio. This is an extraordinary fusion, the sound never achieved already. PHOTOS

(...) On Wenesday I heard the unique combination of two Krakow ensambles: Sinfonietta Cracovia and Motion Trio. Both formations are recognized and admired mainly for perfection and spontaneity of their artistic creations. Both have wide range of artistic interests and are open for new ideas. The result of this openness was the Wenesday concert that joined different worlds of music. The domain of Sinfonietta Cracovia is music called clasical. Motion Trio goes in for with mixtue of various kinds of contemporary music (including elements of jazz and rock). So, it was not a surprise that on Wenesday the Philharmony was full with young audience.

Sinfonietta started the concert with one of the twelwe evocations from Panufnik's "Arbor cosmica". Then we could hear their adaptation of Britten. Orchestra together with accordion trio played Ives and Kilar as well as compositions of Motion Trio. Marcel Chyrzyński's instrumentation of compositions known from Motion Trio records was interesting and created a new value from separate spheres of sound. Finesse of interpretations filled with emotion, abundance of sound, changing moods all this caused that listeners did not want to leave the hall early. I left with mixed filings though. I liked what I heard and appreciate such initiatives, because this interesting event will bring advantage to both ensambles, but frankly I prefer "Sounds of War" or "Orawa" in original. The reachness of sound somehow made them trivial. Nevertheless de gustibus...

-------- GAZETA WYBORCZA - Tomasz Jakub Handzlik 04.03.2005

The concert openes Sinfonietta Cracovia with Andrzej Panufniks "Arbor cosmica". After this short superb preludium of the orchestra three accordionists enter the stage: Janusz Wojtarowicz, Paweł Baranek i Marcin Gałażyn. Basing on quiet string background sounds single phrases of accordions - this is Charles Ives composition "Unanswered question" arranged by Marcel Chyrzyński - young Krakow composer. Motion Trio leader - Wojtarowicz plays main melodic line. The remaining two accordion voices seems more casual and thus more energetic. They carry on dialogue and clash each other. The orchestra does not remain a background only but increasingly participates in the dynamic action. "Silence" and "Sounds of War" impresses in arangement for orchestra and trio (compositions of Wojtarowicz, Hołubowski, Filipek). Theese are true minimalistic works of contemporary music. In modest but superb arangement by Marcel Chyrzyński captivate with musicality and bursting emotions. Wojciech Kilar's "Orawa" sounds wonderful in instrumentation of Motion Trio and Sinfonietta Cracovia. Popular compositon is a bow to the audience, but frankly performance is admirable and greeted with outbursting ovations. The final of the concert is surprising. "You Dance" is a fussion of club techno music with the sound of classical chamber orchestra. The concert is alternation of compositions for three accordions and orchestra and arangements for both ensembles. Sinfonietta Cracovia treats their parts as short intrludios (excellently interpretting Benjamin Britten's "Moto perpetuo" and "Chant") in great show of Motion Trio, as if the trio was the main star. The accordionists seems to play this part. Instantly one may come to conclusion that relish with sucess they want to possess the hall. - Our road to The Philharmony was very long - jokes (or not?) Wojtarowicz.

Was it woth it? The hall full like hardly ever, so probably sucess also artistically, no doubt. Only the feeling of insufficiency of hearing more compositions played together both classical and of Motion Trio's authorship. We know though that this is just the beginning of cooperation of Motion Trio and Sinfonietta Cracovia. Promissing and innovative beginning. Hope it will develop.
